Class of 2002
Awards Ceremony held

MDHS Alumni Association presented two $150 scholarships at the annual senior awards ceremony in Romaine Hall on the evening of Wednesday, May 22.
The Alumni Scholarship was given to Cristina Paredes, whose mother, Olivia Castaneda, graduated from MDHS in 1981.  In addition, 21 of her relatives are alumni.
The second scholarship was presented to Shannon Burton, who has maintained at least a 3.2 GPA during four years at MD, has displayed school spirit, has created a more supportive productive community atmosphere and has shown concern toward all students.
The MDHSAA had decided to give the "MDHS Alumni Association Scholarship in honor of Ruth Galindo" to ensure that the Ruth Galindo Scholarship will go on.
MD Under New Management

By Louis Leonard, '04, Reporter

As 2:15 rolled around, the library's atmosphere was filled with jitters and excitement.  The faculty awaited the introduction of our future principal.
While Serendipity's cookies were passed from table to table, MDUSD assistant superintendant, Dr. Alan Young, addressed everyone and gave them a bit of background about Bev Hansen.
"She's a great master builder," is how Dr. Young described our future principal.
Hansen greeted her audience by saying, "It's great to be back."  She was well received by faculty, who welcomed her with a lengthy ovation.
A few years back she served as vice principal at MDHS.  With an extensive list of past accomplishments, her credentials are well noted.
Hansen's current job is principal of Olympic High School.
Hansen worked for the Peace Corps in Ecuador, and she also taught in Cairo, Egypt, Arizona, and Spain.
She's accustomed to working with different cultures; an essential skill when dealing with all the diversities of our school.
So far it seems that Hansen is a perfect fit to be on the receiving end as Principal Louis Suarez passes the torch.
As Suarez moves on, Hansen will pick up where he left off, improving our school in all areas and aspects.  Her term begins July 1, 2002.
Hansen will be the first woman principal at Mt. Diablo High School in 54 years.
